App for stargazing/meteor showers?

I would really like to know when to watch the stars for things like meteor showers but never when they are happening until I see the articles the day later.
Is there an app for iPhone or a blog or website that would keep me up to date and let me know about these type of events?

I tend not to include many meteor showers because I find these overrated: most people are not willing to spend the time looking for an hour or two after midnight, and so end up disappointed. Most of the meteor showers are on the same nights every year, and are listed online in many places. There's the potential for a new meteor shower in the early morning hours of May 24.

Meteor showers are annual events that occur every year (to one degree or another) on the same calendar dates or periods, so that the information for one year pretty much applies to any year in most cases. The biggest variations will be how much moonlight will interfere with viewing on a given year. Also there are a few exceptions like the Leonids that "storm" once in a generation.

So all your basic astronomy observing guides will have names, dates and areas of the sky of the various meteor showers. "A Field Guide to the Stars and Planets" by Jay Pasachoff is a good book to have.
