Can I use an iPhone 5 from Verizon with AT&T or T-mobile?

I have an upgrade with Verizon and I'm wanting to use it to buy my friend an iPhone 5 for Christmas. Only problem is that she has T-mobile. If I do the upgrade with Verizon will she be able to use it? I was told that I would have to have the micro sim card taken out and have a new one put in from an apple store. That's just what one person told me. Any help or advice would be great.

No, they are on different networks

Unfortunately there's no way that the iPhone 5 can work with T-mobile, even if you purchase an unlocked one for $699 because the iPhone 5 doesn't use a micro sim card anymore, they use a nano sim card. T-mobile has not created their own nano sim card yet.

I'm sorry. Perhaps you could buy her a new iPod Touch. It's everything an iPhone is, except for the phone: http://www.apple.com/...pod-touch/

Or you could give her a cash or a cash check for $279.99 so she could purchase a Samsung Galaxy SIII, which is definitely the best smartphone that T-mobile offers right now: http://www.samsung.com/.../galaxys3/

No because they operate on different networks, Verizon is CDMA and Tmobile is a GSM network you can't use a phone from one network on another, they have to be the same network in order to be used.
