Can iPhones download music not bought from iTunes?

Most of my music can from 3rd party downloads, before I got iTunes. But all of those MP3s still transferred over to iTunes when I downloaded it.

So, when I do get my iPhone, will I have to buy all new music from iTunes? Or will the music that I have now work when I sync it?

To tell you the truth, I had that trouble with numerous Apple products. If you still use your old iTunes account, then it will probably automatically transfer to your iPhone. There's a possibility that it won't because of past experience. I use "iDownloads" and you can download actual music and then access it without Wi-Fi. The website I use on iDownloads to download music is called (mp3skull.com) . I believe iTunes is a big rip off, so I would recommend sticking with iDownloads.

If you can get the music from the other "sources" on to your computers hard drive, then when you go to your iTunes program, and hit scan for media all of your music should come up and you should be able to sync it and listen to all your music without a problem. Or you could download apps to get your music straight from your phone and/or use websites like mp3skull.com like Coldplay said (which I use too).

If you have the.mp3 files of all of those songs on your computer and have iTunes installed, you can right click them and select "Open with…" and choose iTunes, they will be added to your iTunes library automatically. Then sync your iPhone and your music will end up in your music library.

IPhones, like iPods and iPads can take unprotected MP3 music from any number of sources - it would be a miracle if Apple were able to sell even a fraction of the iPods it normally sells were they only able to play iTunes-purchased music.

Music can come from illegal sites, legitimate music vendors, peer share and torrent, ripped from CD or copied from your friends.

WHen you get your phone, you don't have to rely on automatic syncing - you can use manual management mode to drag and drop the songs from the iTunes window onto the iPhone tab on the sidebar. This works on all Apple devices, including iPhone 5, even iPhones with iOS 7, even thouse using the "new" iTunes software. Doing the "sync" thing is just plainly stupid and causes virtually every headache complained of here by Apple owners. I've been doing manual management for years and have none of the problems that you syncers insist on punishing yourselves with.

Remember to back up your music to CDR or something. That way you'll be able to copy it back to your HD if your computer is replacedor reformatted, or… Etc.
