Can you text without Wi-Fi or data?
So I just got my first phone and it's an iPhone 5s.
What is data? What is service?
Mainly…
Can you text or call without data or Wi-Fi?
Like what if I'm in the car and there's no Wi-Fi around and I have no data, can I still text someone?
Data is for the internet. You can message other iPhones with just Wi-Fi, and yes, you can always text. There's ALWAYS service (I mean 95% of places have service)
What ever happened to verbal communication? This generation is shot to ****.
You can text without Wi-Fi or data you just have to have service. With my smartphone now I don't have a data plan because it's to expensive but I can still text and call without Wi-Fi.
You need Service to make your phone do what you want such as calling, texting, etc. If you have no data, you can probably still text and call but not Surf the Web.
Data is basically internet. It's used for when there's no Wi-Fi around. So, say you're at a grocery store. Most grocery stores where I live don't have Wi-Fi, so this is where data would come in handy. Using data is sort of like connecting to your companies own router. It will allow to use their internet. So, if you're at the grocery store (or anywhere with no Wi-Fi), you'll be able to check your mail, use social networking, browse the web, etc.
Service is your cell reception according to your companies towers. Basically your phone send off little cells that reach a tower and connect you to their service. If you have 5 bars of service, you should easily be able to make a call and send a text. If you have 1 or no bars, you probably won't be able to get or send any calls, or texts.
Anyways, it is possible to send a text and make calls without data or Wi-Fi, as long as the text isn't iMessage. IMessage is sort of like a messaging system between iPhone's, basically the Apple version of Blackberry Messenger or MSN.
So, essentially, all you need data for is to go on the internet or use anything that needs the internet (Twitter, Facebook, iMessage, etc). If all you need to worry about is service, just make sure you always have bars and you should be able to send a text or make a call very easily.
Hope I wasn't too confusing!

Thats impossible
Yes. All phones can text without Wi-Fi or data since it is has never required internet access.
Data is basically internet access from the carrier. The service of course is that service of you getting the access.
Yes again you can text without either as well as making calls since neither require an internet connection.
- What happens when you block someone on an iPhone 6, and they text you or call you? Specifically, does the phone keep ringing or does it say the call can't be made? Does the text deliver and just never show up on the receiving phone, or does the sender get a message saying the text can't be sent? (The other phone is not an iPhone.)
- Is there other ways to text without using cellular data? I noticed recently that it cost if you text someone via email because you have to have celluar data on for iphones. Is there other ways you can text without using it? I don't have a cell phone so online options are my only choice.
- Is there any Iphone apps were you can text without internet or phone service? I have an iphone 3gs and i would like to know if there's any apps were you can text without internet or phone service?
- Is there an app where you can read people's text messages without them knowing? I want an app on the iPhone 5 where you can read other people's text messages without them knowing or even being with them, help
