Did What's App discontinue its compatibility with the 2G Iphone?

I currently have an old jail broken Iphone (2G iOS 3.1.3) and have been using What's App (presumably version 2.8.6) regularly for the last few months. It wasn't until december 26th that the app disabled itself from use. It can't open up the contacts to read nor send messages, but oddly I still receive them.

Every time I open the app, it asks me to insert my phone number as well as a 3 digit code that I get Via SMS to disable it. However, once I click the button to get the SMS, I get a notice saying that my App is "too old" and instead recommends that I download the latest upgrade at no cost, but when I tried downloading it through the app store it says it's now compatible with 4.3 or higher.

I find it unfair, yet I understand that it's all about marketing and improving service and technology, but still, is there a way around this issue or am I being forced to buy a new smartphone in order to use the App again?

Sell it for like 50.00 buy a 3gs for like 75-80.00 the you will be fine with all apps

WhatsApp currently requires iOS 4.3 or higher to run. Since the iPhone 2G & 3G run up to iOS 3.1.3 & 4.2.1 respectively they will no longer be able to run the app.

Yes you will have to get a newer model iPhone in order to use it again. Honestly, its overdue. The 2G is outdated. The 3GS would be fine enough for now.

There's no way around it… Apple's a ***

  • Will iphone 4 lose its Facetime compatibility? Francis G says iphones will soon be discontinued, does this mean Facetime will no longer work on them? I did put a link.
  • Why is the iPhone SE is on the bottom of the compatibility chart? Read more? So I looked at the compatibly chart for iOS 11 and I saw the iPhone SE and I noticed it on the bottom on top of the iPhone 5s. Why is that? Are they going to drop support for the SE before the iPhone 6s? Like come on it just came out last year. The iPhone 5c received the same amount of updates as the 5. I don't understand because my SE is plenty fast. like it has the A9 chip and that came out in 2015 https://www.apple.com/...1-preview/
