Difference between iphone and smartphone?

Smartphones combine cellphones and PDAs into a single device that offers much of the same functionality as a basic computer. An iPhone is a type of smartphone. The iPhone offers many of the advanced features found on competing devices, but it also differs from other smartphones on the market.

The phone which have advanced operating system is called as smart phones and iPhone has the most advanced operating system so it is an type of smart phone

Smartphones are handheld computers that also provide portable phone functionality. They are an evolution from feature cellphones, which just made calls but had a few crude simple extra features, and personal data assistants (PDAs), which provided services other than phone calls. The iPhone is the archetype of the smartphone, but there are many others.

The iPhone's distinction today is largely linked to Apple's reputation. On the plus side, the iPhone is known for build quality, high ease of use and ergonomy, reliability and stability. On the minus side, it is also know for its very high price, and its "walled garden" design, which gives Apple tremendous control over how the phone can be used. This latter downside is an inevitable consequence of the upsides. When you tightly control a device, you increase stability and reliability, but at the price of flexibility and customization. You can't have it both ways, and Apple prefers the side of reliability, stability, and ease of use rather than an open architecture with heavy customization.
