Do I buy Verizon iPhone 6 or unlocked iPhone 6 for Verizon prepaid?

I'm wanting to get Verizon prepaid. I'm wanting to know can you use an iPhone 6 on it and if so do I buy an unlocked one or a Verizon one?

What's a prepaid phone? Can IPhones be prepaid? I'm going to buy an IPhone 4 from my friend and i'm wondering if it can be prepaid? If so do I need anything like a sim chip? & It's not on contract… Or could I just go on a plan without being on a contract?
If I buy an unlocked Iphone, Can I use it with a prepaid phone plan? So I was going to buy an unlocked iphone 4 on craiglist for about 250 and my family doesn't like the thought of being on a contract. If I buy this phone will I be able to use with a prepaid phone plan.

I have been having issues with getting good signal, so I'm considering switching to Verizon. I can't use any plan other than the prepaid plan, but I would rather buy the iPhone 4s from somewhere other than the Apple Store or Verizon online. Would I still be able to use the prepaid plan on this phone? Also, how would I pay each month? Is there a card I can buy?
