Do I have to disconnect my iphone from Verizon before switching to Straight Talk?

I want to get off my father's plan because he likes to use the fact he pays for it against me sometimes and I'm getting tired of it. So my question is, do I have to have him talk to Verizon (which I really want to avoid…) to disconnect my line, or can I just remove the sim from my iphone and put a straight talk one in?

Of course unless you want your bill to keep charging you.

Consult StraightTalkBYOP.com before automattically thinking you iphone will work on Straight Talk… No All iphones will work with ST… Example, CDMA (verizon/sprint/virgin mobile) Iphones 4s,5,5s,5c won't work on ST… Absolutely no CDMA 4G LTE phone, iphone, android, windows, blackberry, etc will work on ST…

just an FYI before you have a orgasim with ST and the iphone

Please DISREGARD Android Core, unfortunately, this user reports very outdated and incorrect information regarding CDMA/LTE devices. My best friend is currently using my old Verizon phone on AT&T. She used it on StraightTalk prior to moving to AT&T. The phone is an HTC Rezound. The phone required no rooting, jailbreaking, etc. Just popped in SIM, and changed from CDMA/LTE to UMTS/GSM mode in data settings. ALL, EVERY SINGLE Global 4G/LTE device offered on Verizon can be used on any GSM carrier, using any GSM SIM.
The iPhone 4S is SIM locked. It is NOT LTE capable, but is global capable. The SIM lock only affects US carriers, any GSM SIM from another country will work in 4S.
The Verizon iPhone 5, 5c, and 5s are all completely unlocked. You can insert a SIM from any foreign or US GSM carrier and expect service.
So, to correctly state this answer for you, since you specifically said Verizon and iPhone…
ABSOLUTELY All Verizon CDMA/LTE iPhones (5-5s-5c) will work with any GSM SIM. Your only drawback will be no LTE, you'll be using HSPA/HSPA+. Which is plenty fast for most things a phone needs to do.

  • Will a Verizon iPhone 5 have LTE service if used on Straight Talk? Just a quick question for iPhone experts. I recently decided I want an iPhone 5 and have a friend who raves about his s3 on Straight Talk. I have the opportunity to buy a Verizon iPhone 5 from a friend for cheap, but i'd like to know if I will receive LTE service when using it on Straight Talk. If not, I will just go with a Straight Talk iPhone from their website.
  • Will a Verizon iPhone 4 Work on Straight Talk? I have a Verizon iPhone 4. Will it work on Straight Talk's $45 Unlimited Everything plan? I'm open to jailbreaks and unlocks.
  • Switching from Verizon to Straight Talk? I currently have a contract with Verizon Wireless until February. My account is currently suspended, but I was curious to know if there's any way that I can use straight talk or another service provider until I can afford to have my service with Verizon cut back on? I have an iPhone 4S.
  • Switching from AT&T iPhone to htc inspire on straight talk? I'm currently using an unlocked AT&T iPhone with straight talk, I bought an AT&T sim card. I'm going to switch to an unlocked AT&T htc inspire. Do I have to buy another straight talk AT&T sim card? Or can I just use the same one? I do not want to switch phone numbers!
