This question will always get hundreds of answers, because its down to personal preference. I prefer the galaxy s3. Your not tied into apple products and it takes a memory card.

@Axel: No its not. The iPhone 5 has already outsold the GSIII worldwide (41 million to 31 million) & we haven't even reached 2013 as yet.

It is a big preference option. S3 offers versatility that the iPhone does not have but iPhone offers a stable and smooth running phone.

Choice is up to yours. Of course there are cons to both phones.

Some of the iPhone apps are not well developed aka Maps and Passbook.
A con for the S3 is that everyone that tells you to get one is like"look at the specs" but in reality they always under-perform. S3 looks better on paper than in actual performance. NFC and the motion sensors are the two biggest things S3 takes pride in but they do not work to the same perfection as the commercials.

First of all, it depends on you. If you are a hardcore gamer, and use online maps, and if you are generally just looking for fun, get an S3 or HTC One X. If you're a professional or businessman, and only use it to check emails, notes and memos, take pics, and all that kind of stuff, an I5 is Way better. BTW, an I5's battery is MUCH MUCH better than S3's. Reason- it's Samsung.

Second, it depends on your ego. Realize the difference between having just another Samsung product, and having a prestigious Apple product. Apple feels and looks much more superior and luxurious, and it generally indicates that the owner is wealthy and affluent.

IPhone 5. I like iMessage and FaceTime and FindMyFriends and FindMyiPhone and using Pages and Numbers and sync'ing calendar/contacts/notes/reminders with my Mac over iCloud, I like Siri, and I like the lock screen, I like how apps organize, I like the notification bar.

Of course it is as you say a matter of preference. Which one is inherently better may be a different question.
