Does Apple replace a broken iPhone for free?

They will give you old version of iphone like if you have broken iPhone 5 they'll give you 4s

I'm not a strong supporter of iphones, one dude at work told me they replace the iphone even if i break it i know that is not true, warranty coverage and read what it says i have to agree with one answer it going to cost you some money to repair it
- Will apple replace my iphone for free? Iphone 6 plus and the ringer button has sort of been faulty since i got it. At first i thought it was because i was pushing it too gently but now 4 months later as soon as i put it on ring it flips back to silent, it doesn't work at all.

A few people said its a free replace but I just want to make sure.
