Does Apple update the software on their devices in the apple store?

I'm about to buy a iPhone 4s from a apple store nearby, and i was wondering if they update the software on the devices they have in stock. Because i would like to buy my iPhone with iOS 5 installed instead of iOS 6. The latest iOS is pretty lame and its like they've tried to update the previous iOS, but failed. For me, iOS 5 runs smoothest and its the most stablest for me.

The Apple Store always sells new products with the latest version installed. You might call them and ask if they could install iOS 5 for you. They probably update via the Apple Support Site, so may not be possible. Ask them. Maybe they have a tech disk with the older iOS they could use. Also depends on if the phone's ROM has been changed in the latest phone to take advantage of some feature in the new iOS. If so, it would be like trying to install an older Mac OS in a new Mac computer. Won't work!

I always see it anounced in an absolutely black device, such as this one: http://pective.com/m/iphone-5 I wonder whether, when you're going to buy one, you go to the apple store and buy the whole thing, or look for a Nokia or Sony smartphone and then go to the Apple website and buy and download the software into your device.

I currently have iOS4 I guess and iTunes 11.1.3 on my windows PC and got no iCloud (should I have it to update?) I tried to google tutorials for such thing but couldn't find any. Hope you can help me out
