Does buying a refurbished iPhone affect plan/upgrade status on Sprint?

I can't seem to find an answer to this question, and am hoping someone here can help me.

I'm on a Family Plan that my brother pays for. I have been eligible for an upgrade for a few months now. Well, I currently can't afford to buy a new $100 iPhone for my upgrade, hence my current question.

Does buying a refurbished iPhone affect plan/upgrade status?

I can manage to pull together the money needed for that, BUT I do not want a 2-year plan. I have plans to take my number onto a separate plan in the near future, and so, I don't want to buy this refurbished phone and have it mess up going out on my own plan. Again, I have Sprint.

Can anyone help me?

As log as you insert the SIM card and plug it into iTunes to set it up, then it should not affect your upgrade, since you did not go through a retailer and do it professionally.

Do you mean buying a refurbished phone from Sprint instead of an upgrade 100 buck new iphone, also from Sprint? If yes, then I would say yes, because your refurbished phone is also subsidized by Sprint. You need to call sprint to make sure.

It really depends on if you have a data plan. If your not on a data plan then yes you have to pay for data reactivation.
