If you can connect to the Wi-Fi source without paying then you won't need to pay anything. If they charge for Wi-Fi use then you will be told to create an account with your credit card details (this is for public Wi-Fi) However most places are offering free Wi-Fi such as McDonald's.
Some places like hotels will charge for Wi-Fi but before you go online they will ask for credit card info. If you happen to be just out and about and connect to a Wi-Fi network there's no charge
