I think it might also work if you put it in recovery mode which is a little easier. Turn off the iPhone 5S, open iTunes on your computer, keep holding down the home button while it's off and then plug it into your computer while you're holding it. It should be in recovery mode and you can restore. You can also find a video for recovery mode.
