Going to France, What should I Bring?

I'm going to France for the French program at my High School. I'm staying at a host family's home for a week and a hotel for the second week. I already made a letter to the host family. I have my passport. I've never been out of the country nor been on an airplane. What all can I bring in my suitcase. Plus a concern about power, I have a laptop with 90w charger, iPhone 5 charger from apple (I don't know how many watts), and another low wattage electronic. What can I bring without getting in trouble by the TSA or what ever they have at an airport. I need good answers!

Clothes, money, and a camera.

Ohh, didn't you hear? France is closing down tomorrow. I'm really sorry about the inconvenience.

Congratulations on your trip - it sounds great.

If you are going this summer, you honestly just need to bring what you would to anywhere in the US with a northern climate. So, pants, shirts, shorts (or skirts) yadda, yadda. This may sound off but Europeans tend to dress a little better than Americans so I wouldn't go for baggy shirts and baby doll shorts. But really, it's all up to you.

I would bring a backpack in addition to a suitcase and whatever you use to carry every day items. Get an adaptor so you can use the outlets. Bring two pairs of shoes - one for comfort, one for any 'dressed up' activities like going out to dinner/a night on the town. I always bring at least one nice outfit if I'm going somewhere that might require it. Bring whatever you need to keep entertained - a book, iPad, whatever. Your iPhone 5, unless it has an INTL plan, will roam and this will cost you buckets of money - it may be best to just buy a burner or use phone cards/pay phones. I personally never bring my phone abroad. Bring any medications you frequent or may require - I always bring a tiny medical kit with Aspirin, Tums, Prilosec, etc and other American medication I'm familiar with.

As long as you do not bring weapons and tons of liquid with you on the plane, TSA won't be a problem. You can bring your electronics - just take them out before sending them through X-Rays.

Traveling is pretty easy and really, just pack what you would for any trip that would go two weeks. Europe is no different from home, in this case. If you were going to Tanzania or Iceland I might have different advice ;-)

Bon Voyage!

You will need a voltage adaptor as Europe doesn't use the same voltage, nor the same plugs. A simple plug adaptor is not enough, the electricity coming out of your wall in the States is 110 volts, whereas in France it's 230-240 volts. Any device using only 110 V will burn out if you plug it in a French outlet.

Here is a site explaining it all but in short:
http://www.coolstuffinparis.com/electricity_in_france.php

Computers:

They are the exeption to the rule. Look at the fine print on the label on the adaptor and see something like "Input: 100-240V." The numbers might vary a bit, but this range covers the voltage in both the US and in France. So, you can buy yourself a simple adaptor - which can range from about three to twelve Euros, depending on whether your computer cable has two or three prongs - and plug in your computer in France with no problem.

Anything else:

Without the mention 240 V on them forget about them unless you buy a voltage converter. They are quite heavy so you might not want to bother with it. Or buy one in France.

If you travel with your laptop in your single allowed hand luggage then make sure that it is in easy reach as you will need to get them out of the bag, with all the cables, adaptor, charger and such. Or put it in your suitcase, well padded. But you run the risk of having it stolen.

Seriously
1. High heels to hit people in paris. People in paris are scussy and extremely self obsolvong assholles.
2. Maybe a neck band. People like to chop off the head. So your head will be chopped off soon or later.
3. Dry sage - there are millions of dead people living undrneath of the city. So you have to cleanse your room with it. Many many many bead baby and grim reapers also.
4. Bring some America flag so they would know that catacomb is their place to stay day and night.

  • Will my sprint Iphone 5 work in Paris, France? I will be traveling to Paris this summer and I need to know if I need to get like an international plan or something.
  • Where can i get a sim card for my iphone for france? I have an iPhone 5 and i will be traveling to France this summer for 10 days. I have read about where to get prepaid sim cards but they all seem to be bought in France. I want to know if I can buy it in the USA and then just put it in my phone. My phone is unlocked but my carrier does not support International. Also, when would i put it in my phone, the day i leave or could it still work while in America and I just put it in early?
  • When going to get my Iphone replaced, what do I need to bring to the Apple store? I got my iphone a little over two months ago and the ear speaker has stopped working properly. The phone is under my father's name, and he took it to fido to see what can be done and they said to take it to an apple store. I'm planning on going myself but since the phone isn't under my name, what do I need to bring with me?
  • When are they going to bring out BBM for iPhone? I have been reading on http://www.bbm-for-iphone.co.uk that they are going to bring out BBM for iPhone and bring out BBM for Android. I would like to know what they are actually going to release BBM for iPhone and BBM for Android? Please let me know, and provide me with many links for downloads.
