I think it all depends on how often you charge it and stuff.
An iPhone can last years on years as long as you don't drop it like 99% of people.
I used my last iphone over 3 years and it had no issues when I upgraded.
As many people have been saying it all depends on how well the device is looked after. Lots of people don't bother putting a protective cover on there Iphone and often end up dropping the phone and breaking it. See the problem with the Iphone is that the back and the front of the phone is made of glass there for it is very very breakable. So an Iphone needs to have a (Protective Cover) not just a back cover put on.
