How much data does Maps on the iPhone use?

I only have 3GB of data on my iPhone so I would like to know approximately how much data I would need for a four hour trip or so.

In addition if you know, let me know of other GPS apps that use less data.

How about Navigator Free? It has offline maps - so it uses no data at all. Map updates come in package, so you can download it whenever it suits you.

I use the mapquest app on my iphones for this, but I'm sure the apple maps have the same features. What I do is put the destination in then when I get on highway I pause it (just because I'm not sure how much data that takes), then when I get to an area where I need to exit or turn I unpause it and it relocates and tells me where to turn etc.

Depends on the length of the trip & the features you use in the app, like satellite, traffic, etc.

Even so you'd also have to account for background tasks being performed which also may be using up data

  • Old GPS or iPhone maps or google maps app? I'm going to drive from IL down to SC and I don't trust my old garmin nuvï 255 nor iphone maps lol:-) GPS update is $50 which I'm not going to spend. So has anyone used iphone maps or google maps app on long distance trips? Or I just better use old gps?
  • Is tbere any major différence between thé iPhone 6 and the 6s? Whooppeee is Xmas again and my daughter wants new 2nd hand) iPhone… 2 years ago almost bought her 5 before i réaliséd that it was 5s she wanted ( cos thé 5 sucks?) And I don't want to screw up this year…
  • IPhone: Google maps or default apple maps? I personally like the default maps, at least the OS 7 version. (like everyone else who had a brain, I hated the OS 6 version) Which one do you guys like more? Which is more popular now?
  • If I keep my data on but also use Wi-Fi will it use my data? I just got an iPhone from us cellular. I use Wi-Fi to save data, but I can't receive group messages if my data isn't on. If I keep my data on all the time, but use Wi-Fi, will it use my data? And if I keep both on will it use my Wi-Fi instead of data?
