My Iphone 5 got stolen and I didn't activate the app "find my iphone". How can I track it?

You can't track it if you didn't activate Find My iPhone. So your sole remaining option is to get your phone service provider to permanently block the phone so that it's useless on all networks in your country and often in many others as well. That makes the phone almost useless to the thief but also permanently useless to you if you ever get it back.

Data on iPhones is encrypted, so unless the thief knows your phone passcode or passcode recovery details then your data is safe. If you were silly enough to share those details with people you know and one of them stole it then that person has access to all of your phone data and can even hijack your Apple identity.

That's an expensive mistake which I doubt you'll repeat.

Then my friend you are out of luck. You can hire a detective, but unless it's Batman or a medium with 100% with finding lost items, you are SOL, because there's nothing that you can do after then fact to track, trace, magic up the location of your lost or stolen iPhone.
