How to get an upgrade on my iphone?

Is their a website i can go to that tells me my plans and such and suggests upgrades? How far can i upgrade it? Do i have to have the iphone on hand when i get a new one? Basically walk me through this process please!1

That's a mouthful. First go with your carrier's website. You can plug in your number and check upgrade status, etc. If you don't like their answers, just buy a new(er) one online on Amazon or Ebay to replace it. They are not cheap that way but you can find one to work on your carrier almost assuredly. After you've bought a new one, activate it, then sell your old one.
No, don't need it on hand but it helps a lot when you're doing your own activation.
How far? Depends on your money supply and what choices your preferred carrier has. Could be free for a 4s to $600 for a 5s if your credit isn't great and you can't get a contract.
Best luck.

"s their a website i can go to that tells me my plans and such and suggests upgrades?"

Is that a trick question? I was going to suggest going to your carrier's website. But that's obviously too obvious to be correct.

"how far can i upgrade it?"

Why would you think that there would be a limit to upgrading? Carriers don't put limits on your upgrade because they want you tp upgrade. Obviously some upgrades are more expensive.

"do i have to have the iphone on hand when i get a new one?"

If you needed an old iPhone to get a new one, then how would anybody have ever gotten an iPhone to begin with? Also, why would carriers and/or Apple restrict iPhones to people who already had them? They both want you to get an iPhone.

"walk me through this process"

Maybe your getting a smartphone isn't a smart idea.
