How to join a Wi-Fi repeater network on an iPhone?

Firstly, I'm a fairly confident computer user but by no means a tech wizard so please keep any answers simple!

I have recently bought a Wi-Fi repeater to allow me to use my laptop at the other end of the house to where the router is connected. I have set up my laptop to receive the repeater signal. The network connections show as "SKYXXXXX" and a second network "Wi-Fi Repeater1". They are both set to connect automatically.

I'm now trying to access the Wi-Fi Repeater1 network on my iPhone 4S. The network shows as available and full strength. It asks me to enter the network password.

Should my password be the network key on the bottom of the router? I believe that this is what I used when I set it up on my laptop but it doesn't accept it on the iPhone. There's no network key on the repeater to use. Obviously no one can tell me what my password is but if you could give me some ideas how I can get the iPhone to accept the repeater network I would be grateful. Or alternately advise me if I have set the whole thing up incorrectly.

First, be sure that if the password you used is correct, that you do not interchange letter O for 0(zero). Check CAPS too i.e., be sure you're not using capital letters for small and otherwise.

Two, be sure the repeater does not setup and uses it's own password to broadcast the signals it re-sends.

Else, read the repeater setup manual properly and try again.

Hope it helps!

Hopefully from the name of the network name of the repeater if i get it right is one of those plug-in white repeaters that run around the market! I got one of those. Anyway i can try help you out as much as possible.

Your repeater can be used as Access point or Repeater Mode.

I will explain:
Access point mode, means it will create another different Wireless signal (name) which you can use to connect to, with different password as well. The repeater means it will "copy" your existing Wi-Fi signal, and in the end of the setup you will see only 1 single but more powerful signal (named SKYXXXXX) which can be reached to the other end of your house.

I will explain the repeater mode which is the one you need to connect and is easier.

Turn off your iPhone's and laptop's wireless completely.

There's a small reset button on your repeater. Press it and keep it pressed 10 seconds.

Have patience here and watch its lights go off and then on. Let it alone 2-5 minutes. I repeat, have patience, these repeaters take time to reset to factory defaults.

Get your iPhone. Now turn on Wi-Fi and search for wireless network named "Wi-Fi Repeater".
Connect to it regardless of not having internet connection yet.

Open safari

Type in the address bar this: 192.168.10.1

It will ask you username and password

The username: admin
The password: admin

This is the Wi-Fi Repeater's little setup software.

Click on Setup Wizard.

Choose Wireless Repeater Mode then click next

Then you will see a list of wireless networks which yours will be there
e.g SKYXXXXX.

Press "Select" on your SKYXXXXX.

It will ask for your wireless network password. Add it.

Save and reboot.

Now, hopefully if all went smooth, now you will have a single wireless signal, but stronger in other room. Note that the Wi-Fi Repeater name will disappear and you will see only SKYXXXXX in your house.

If you fail, just repeat from the step where you reset the Wi-Fi Repeater from button - to factory defaults.

I did that from my windows phone but you can do this with any phone, doesn't matter.

Try it and let me know.

  • Wi-Fi on iPhone keeps saying unable to join network (my network name)? How can I fix this! It's been like this for a week but it works on my laptop fine. I tried unplugging it for a few seconds, I tried resetting network settings, I tried turning my phone off then on again, and I know I'm typing it right. I even typed it in upper case AND lower case. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I have this feature on my phone, where it joins wi-fi networks automatically, but sometimes, it work and I end up having to manually select a network.
