How to move songs from iTunes to iphone?

I've done it before but on my old laptop and i can't remember how i did it. I downloaded some songs to itunes, but when i try to move the files to my phone, it doesn't say it can't do it or come up with a cross or anything, it just doesn't show the songs on my phone. How do i move them? These songs were non- purchased as i got them from the internet.

… This is the only thing about an iphone i hate… Having to use itunes…

On the summary tab of your iTunes sync settings check "Sync only checked songs and videos"
In your music library check all the songs you want to sync to your phone. Make sure there are no exclamation points next to any of the songs you want to sync to your phone.
Make sure you have authorized your computer for all Apple IDs for purchased music you want to sync to your phone (in Store>Authorize This Computer). Check "Sync Music" on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings and then sync your phone

Say this to Siri:

Siri. Connect to itunes and download these songs (the song names) and save them on my iphone.
