How to not get annoyed by this?

First of all, I'm not some spoiled brat. I get good grades and work very hard.Anyways, I've been in need of a new phone for the last 3 months. My parents have been back and fourth if they should switch carriers or not, and that went on for almost a year. But just two weeks ago they decided to stick with our current carrier. My parents did also find out that I could upgrade phones if I wanted. So I talked to them about this, and they told me to go see the free phones Verizon currently has listed. I saw that the Iphone 4 was listed free, with a 2 year agreement. Everyone in my family, except me and my Mother have used two year plans. I have just bought my phones on Ebay.com with my money. So I tell my parents, and now they're basically making up excuses as to why I shouldn't get it. Like one is, they don't want to feel locked in a binding contract because if they terminate it, they'll have to pay $350. So they told me to go look on ebay for a new iphone that was cheaper. I found one, that was a really good deal, and new. But they never acted on it, they just sat there and started at each other. I would honestly just pay the $500 or whatever for a new phone with Verizon, or heck, get my own plan, I really would. But the problem is, I don't have a dang job! I have been looking for one though, but no luck, I hope I can get one soon though. Oh yeah, my current phone is a Droid X. I've had it since summer of 2012. However, it doesn't call people, doesn't keep a charge and dies alot

You Should try to find a used 4s because, i have to agree with your family, getting locked in with a contract totaly sucks so just try to find a friend who would want to sell one and use that this way they can't take it away) also, tell your parents to switch to one of those cheaper phone services, yes the ones with the stupid commercails, so they feel you contributed and maybe they would get you an upgrade with them

but yes, i do find that kindove anoyying but look at the other side, they HAVE to stay with verizon(expensive) for 2 years if they get you the phone so technicly its not free
