How to not let family members locate my iphone?

I'm 18 and very mature for my age. I reguraly go to the ymca to workout, today was just a regular day. I get on my xbox 360 and played with some friends online and I origially planned to play for 30-40 minutes but I got heavily into it and it was fun so I look at the time and find that its 7:00 when I got on xbox at 3:00. So I get ready and was on my way to the ymca, I take the train. I live in Boston you take the train everywhere you go. So after being at the ymca I head home and take the train home. On the train I get automated text from verizon that says VZW Free Msg: this phone is ready for family locator! Followed by like 50 text saying my aunt has requested my location like 50 times! Then finally saying Family members( just her) can now locate my phone.

Ok I'm 18, 6'5 and I like to workout and exercise and I'm not a ugly person but also not a bad person. I never ever done drugs, smoked or dranked anything I stay away. But she is a paranoid person and she thinks i'm out there doing "things" when that never crosses my mind. Also, I'm 18! I don't need no locator! My aunt is also quite obsessive meaning she over does things but not to protect me so don't think thats the case. I just need to know how do I set my iphone to not be located just for the nosy leisure of it. Like in the settings? Or disable something? Or a app? Please help and she also has a history of "over doing things". She goes to far a lot and this is the beginning. How do I set my iphone?

Is she paying for your phone? Is she your guardian. You can turn off the gps feature and check to see if you have a parental control app loaded. Since you are 18 - you are free to get your own phone for which she would have no access to - because YOU would be paying and the contract would be in your name. Or you could text and tell whomever you're living with that you may be late so that the person that is probably financially supporting you or letting you live with them at 18 doesn't have to worry - because that's what a mature person does.

@Meems

You seem like the typical strict, hard on child, unfair parent and its parents or guardians like you that end up making your kids stand up for themseves or rebellious as you might say cause they want the ball and chain off their foot and out of the cage. You think that every situation is the same it is NOT. I pay my aunt $200 a month and I'm on my own. The only thing she pays is the phone bill, she does nothing to help me and she also does mean things to me and she is the most power hungry and controlling person ever and is egotistic and thinks the world revolves around her. If I were to ask for her help for ANYTHING she would complain, I get NO help from her, I'm on my OWN I even have to go to the grocery store and buy me grocery's and somehow find a way to get home with the food. Seriously people like you think your so much better than younger people, I have been trying my hardest to make it in life and people like you make that harder. Which is why my aunt is not even married or in a relationship with a man cause she has mental problems. But hey I'm younger so I MUST be the one in the wrong right? #adult logic

  • Will my family members get the same apps I download? My mom and brother and I are getting a shared data plan for our new iPhones, and I've heard that there's something about everyone getting each app that anyone in the plan downloads. Is that true? I don't want to have to have all of the games my brother will download, and I don't want my mom having all the social media apps I download lol
  • What are you getting your family members for Christmas? I'm having trouble deciding what to get family for Christmas. Mostly my parents. My sister will be a little earlier to shop for. So far I'm getting my dad a Big Bang theory calendar since he loves that show and he already has a few bbt shirts, hats etc. He also like world of Warcraft so I'm going to get him something wow related and for my mom all I have so far is an iPhone 5 case.
  • PERSONAL iPhone messages being sent to family members? I imessage my friend (who owns an iphone) with my ipad fairly often. However, recently, for some reason, my mother, who owns an iphone and shares my apple ID, has been receiving our personal messages between one another. It's as if apple decided to include her in our conversation without consent. My messages to my friend go to my mom, and my friends messages to me go to my mom. None of us want this. What has happened, and how do I fix this?
  • Is there an app like this for band members? I already have an app where you can edit One Direction into your iPhone pictures. Are there any apps like this, but for band members (like from Pierce the Veil, Sleeping with Sirens, Bring Me the Horizon, etc)?
