How to safely back everything up on my iPhone 4s?

I have an iPhone 4s and i want to back back up and save everything! Embarrassingly i'm not that clued up about all of my options which i feel is a bit of a waste when owning such a nice phone!

Here are some things you may find useful when answering:

- The most important things to me that i want to back up are my photos and messages (texts, iMessages and whatsapp messages!). Anything else i could live without keeping, but i'm a pretty sentimental person and NEED these!

- I have just downloaded the Skydrive app and currently backing up about 3000 photo's… Though it's very slow and i'm not sure to what extent that i can trust it or i can access them, and put them back on my phone should i lose them?!

- I've never updated my iPhone since i got it in November 2012… As everyone always seemed to be losing all their data which scared me! So i'm not running on IOS 7.0.4 but i really want to update as soon as possible! (I believe i'm on 6.0.1)

- It says It's never been backed up but i'm sure it has?! And would it be to iCloud? The maximum is 5GB and i believe it stopped backing up when i exceeded this limit (not sure what was included or how i can access any of it!).

I just need it all explaining to me really; I'd be very grateful for anyone to spare some time and tell me my best options for (secure and reliable) free storage and how i'm able to put stuff back on my phone should i lose it?

I was thinking of downloading the dropbox app too, but how would i save texts to anything? Should i save different things to different places? I.e. Put messages into iCloud?

I'm sorry if this is obvious but have you tried to back it up with iCloud?

  • Where can safely download free ebooks for my iphone 4? I can't find a website that I can download free ebooks without it saying I have to download a random program that might be harmful to my computer. I want to be able to download it and transfer to my phone.
  • What program should i use to safely jailbreak my iPhone 4? Tethered should be fine. Untethered is preferred. Please tell me one that is safe and reliable. Also, just t make sure, all i have to do is reset my iPhone to remove the JB right?
  • Is it possible to safely and easily unlock an iphone 4s by yourself? I'm looking for a 4s but I realize that the unlocked ones go for more so I wanted to know if I could factory unlock one by myself without having to pay… Or is there a place where it is safe and cheap to get it unlocked? I just don't want to mess up my new phone. Also can you jailbreak it yourself but also be able to update the phone's firmware while it is jailbroken? (That means without having to reset it every time a new version after ios 6.1.13 comes out).
  • If i restore my iphone via ITunes, everything will be put back on it from back up? I want to restore my iphone due to some problems i'm having but i wanna make sure i won't be losing anything. I backed it up to itunes, so where do i go from here? Do i do a factory reset and when its done, will it give me the option to use backup to put everything on my phone? I'm having a hard time understanding this and i don't wanna lose anything
