How to stop sending iMessages to my wifes old iPhone?

My wife recently got a new Samsung phone, but every time I send her a text from my iPhone, it initially sends an iMessage to her old iPhone. I know the short answer is to just shut off her iPhone, but she likes to use it still for internet and apps.

Go on HER iPhone settings and disable her imessages.

also have the sendor disable messaging and send a message
then turn bAck on for future use

You should also change the label of the phone number in her contact from "iPhone" to "Mobile". With the number labeled as "iPhone", your phone will continue to try to send texts as iMessages even once you have it turned off on her phone. Once you change to "Mobile" messages will send as regular text messages by default.
