I can't hear people when they call me on my iPhone 3GS?

I can hear them when I put it on speaker or when I put headphones in…
I have tried erase all content and settings, what should I do. Please help I'm getting really frustrated… I have looked everywhere for answers!

This might be silly but if it's a brand new I phone then you most Likely have the plastic cover on it still. That plastic cover it's just temp and it covers the speaker from where you listen. That's what happened to me when I was using it for the first time I was like what the hell then ohh lol I was so dumb lol but yea just take it off and buy a I phone case the comes with a screen protector like otter.
