I dropped my iphone in the toilet - 4

I dropped my iphone in the toilet last night. It was fully submerged but for under five seconds. I then took off the rubber/protective covering, shook it a bit, dried it as best as I could with a towel, then stuck it in a sealed bag of rice.

I checked on it this morning after 12 hours in rice and almost everything seems to be working fine. Screen is okay if a bit slow. However the speakers aren't working. It vibrates but doesn't ring.

Is that permanent damage? Or should I keep it in rice a little longer? When can I start using it again safely? I love my iphone and desperately miss it and want to be patient so welcome all advice.

Sounds like an Insurance claim, it would be the best thing!

It sounds like it still might be working, put it back in the toilet and this time leave it longer and give it a good hard flush.

You should keep it in the rice for atleast 2 days without turning it on. Just turning it on can cause significant damage so avoid doing that. After 2 days in the rice take it out make sure that there's no more water than get a hairdryer and heat the phone slightly blowing air all around the phone for 5-10mins. You can then turn it on if the speaker still doesn't work than its most likely destroyed from the water.

You need to shake the water out, then blow and repeat sometimes it works

Oh my god don't listen to Butch, the dude who posted above me. IDIOT.

No, you should keep it in rice for a little bit longer and see if that changes anything. Another thing you could try is taking out the battery (some models of the iPhone are easier to get the battery out then others.) ]

If that doesn't do anything, I would schedule an appointment at the Genius Bar (or whatever the help centers are called) at your local Apple Store, they can tell you exactly what's wrong, how to fix it, or what not.

With any phone as soon as it has touch water, you think that it will never work again. Just get a big tub of rice or pasta (or something dry like that) and put your phone in it.leave it for a few hours. The rice/pasta will absorb the wet and hopefully the phone will dry up.
This also works for iPods and other similar things.

I think that you should that it back to where it was purchased, or to the phone company or any appropriate business place to have your phone repaired. There's physical damage to the phone. The phone might need a battery.
