I dropped my iPhone in the toilet, what do I do?

I dropped my iPhone into the toilet so I put it into a container of rise and left it for around a hour. When I came back to it I realised that I had got rice stuck in the holes. So I picked them out with the end of a earring. But i'm scared that I had broken the insides?! And how do I make it turn on again?! What do I do next?

Place it in the oven on high for an hour, the heat will evaporate the water

Don't put it in a oven like the one person said… I think that may destory it if it isn't already. If it doesn't come on its broke. Get another one.

First, putting it in rice won't do anything. Yes, I know all the sites tell you to do this, but THEY'RE. ALL. WRONG.

If rice really DID absorb moisture like that, we wouldn't need rice cookers. You could simply make rice by dumping some water on it, and then leaving it out for awhile.

Instead what you should have done was to immediately remove the battery and try to dry everything off as best as possible. Next, you should have put the phone on a towel and set it out in a warm sunny spot and leave it there for at least 24 hours. This is to let any water that might have gotten inside, evaporate and leave. Putting the phone on a towel allows any water that might drip out, will be absorbed instead of leaving the phone sitting in a pool of water.

Now try putting the battery back in, cross your fingers, and power on the phone. If you are lucky, water did not make it inside the phone before you were able to remove the battery. Without the battery, the water would be unable to short circuit the phone, potentially damaging the delicate components inside. This is also why it's important to leave the phone in a warm place so that if any water DID make it inside, it will evaporate. You really, really do not want any moisture inside your phone when you put the battery back in.

Unfortunately if water did make it inside, and damaged the phone, there's really nothing you can do other than buy a new phone. Apple's warranty does not cover water damage - and yes, they can tell if it's been dropped in water.

Leave it in the rice for a few days not an hour.

You must leave the iPhone in the bag of rice for 72 hours, not 1 hour.

Don't get an iPhone. That's the most effective solution. It's pointless to save an iPhone. They weren't made to survive the elements, and you can't do much now anyway now that you have screwed it up with rice. Try the first comment.

Flush 3 times, then buy a Samsung!

Put it in a bag of rice
