You could also call your provider (like Sprint, Verizon, etc.) and see if they can track it for you.
Unless you have Find My iPhone turned on you can't track it down. You should definitely have that available to you when or if you get another. My recommendation is to tell your dad and take responsibility for your mistake. Going behind his back will only make it worse. Plus you need a new SIM card and will probably have transfer fees, etc.
Other than looking for it the old fashioned way, no. Never understood why people simply don't download the Find my iPhone app instead of not & then regretting it.
