I need a one to two sentence writing prompt?

I would think the setting is the place to start. Make sure the tone suggests the eventual path the novel will follow. The setting tone will determine how the reader visualizes how the story will unfold.

For example, a mystery of where I live would go like this.

Walter was old. He was over weight. He had high blood pressure and he was unsanitary. His neighbors worried about him. The back fences all them painted a bright white or a clean pastel, bristled with the latest 'Walter Gossip' and the same hopeless conclusion about what to do.

His fence was was torn down in several places and the neighbors at first tried to fix it. One even painted it with some leftover white that he had. A week later the fence was down again and the white looked smeared as though nothing had been done.

The talking chain didn't know what to make of that. Who really cared enough to destroy a fence?

The service station. That's were everyone gathered for coffee and crop reports.
The library, where kids connected to the internet if they didn't have their own iphones.
The grocery store with the weekly specials plastered all over the big front glass windows.

Each place relates to Walter. You are not trying to implicate anyone. You are trying to show something about him.

The kids thought he smelled.
The men at the service station wondered where he got his money.
The grocery story owner is thinking of banning him because he pays his bills inconsistently. Eventually he did pay them.
The bar keep was the only one who had anything good to say. Walter gambled but not excessively and he always drank exactly 2 glasses of draft beer.\
