If I save my iPhone Live Photos to a my pc will they be saved as stills or small video files?

I need to save space on my phone but I'm afraid that if I upload them to my computer I will lose the motion.,

Maybe it's a stupid question but I just want to be sure because some of them are of someone that passed away.

Try it and see for yourself. Most likely it'll be an MP4 video file. I'm not positive though

I can't give a definitive answer, but I would expect the files to be saved in the same format on a PC that they were in on the iPhone. The formats of videos and stills are different, and it would require wasteful conversion to do anything other than copy the files exactly as they are.

If you want to play them on the PC, you might have to install a video player such as VLC from Videolan. This is a free download.

Uploading the files should not make any difference to the actual files on the phone. I suggest that you make a short test video, then try uploading that one video and find a player on the PC that lets you watch the video properly.

You can check out whether the test file copies correctly and you can play that file properly on both the iPhone and the PC.

If that all works as I think it will, then you can copy all your files, validate that they have copied correctly, and then remove them from the phone to create the space you are are seeking.

While you have the test video, you might also try removing it from the phone, and then copying it back from the PC to the iPhone to allow you to load videos to the phone if you want to carry one about on the phone that has previously been removed.

They are saved as iPhone Live Photos. Those only play on iPhones.

My Windows Phone live photos would only display as live using a specific viewer, and I don't remember which one it was. The normal viewers for Windows did not understand the motion part of the image.

Not sure how similar the two are, but that was my experience.
