If I update my iPhone to ios8 will I lose my sms messages?
I have precious text messages from my late mother. I've never been quite good at storing and backing up data because Icloud once told me it was full (I have lots of photos!). Also my husband has his iTunes account on the pc as he has a load of music and don't want to mess that up.
No, updating the firmware doesn't delete anything from the phone
It shouldn't but that doesn't alter the fact that your precious messages are vulnerable to loss or corruption at any time.

- Messages sending slow on ios8? I have an iphone 5c, and ever since i updated to ios 8, which was the first day it came out, my texts/imessages have been sending beyond slowly. When i had ios 7 they would literally send right when i pushed the send button, now it takes at least 10-25 seconds each time after i send it. I know it isn't my Wi-Fi or anything because even when i'm in another place under another Wi-Fi network, it still sends slow. Any solutions or fixes?
