IMessage/iChat: Can't connect Apple ID?
So I never used iMessage on my computer before. I tried and it said I needed to update my software so I did, and iMessage became iChat. However, when I open iChat it simply connects to my gmail account. There's no option for me to plug in my Apple ID to get my iPhone number contacts in there. I've searched and there simply isn't a place for me to type in my Apple ID! It's frustrating. Any help would be appreciated. I already tried the lame Apple.com generated guide to using iMessage on OS X (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5538)
You should use the same email that you use in the iPhone. Just go to the preference on your computer and delete the current one and the one want. I would go to iCloud and do it.
To clear something up: iMessage is a service, and iChat is an application that uses various chat services. They are completely different things.
You can't use iMessage in iChat. You need Mountain Lion or later, where iChat is now called Messages. To set it up, you open Messages (should be in Applications folder), press cmd+comma to go to the settings, and there's a button somewhere to add a new account. Then type in your login credentials, and you should be set.
- Why can't my desktop connect to our Wi-Fi at home but does connect to moble hotspot? Suddenly my desktop won't connect to our Wi-Fi. All other devices such as laptops, phones and tablets connects just fine. I tried connecting it to my iphone's hotspot and it works. I tried to unistall and reinstall the wireless adapter but still won't work. I also tried to reboot the router and even tried to change the channel but still failed to make it work. Do you have any other way to make it work? I have windows 7 on my desktop.
- When I connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot, I can't connect to Gmail or Twitter? My iPhone connects to other people's networks fine, but when I'm using public hotspots gmail and twitter say no Internet connection. Why? Is there a way round it?
- One laptop can connect to our home Wi-Fi network but no other devices can connect? We recently set up a wireless internet connection in our house. One laptop can connect to it (the one I'm currently on) but no other devices can connect to it. It says our "Network Security Key" is mismatched. I have tried typing in all the different codes on both the router and modem on both our second laptop and an iPhone 5. How can I fix this?
- My iphone keeps sending texts instead of ichat messages? I know the people I'm messaging have an iphone so it should be going through. Just wondering how to fix that!
