Do your basic ON/OFF, reset (to reset hold the home button and power button simultaneously until the apple logo appears), etc. You say no apps open, but are they running? Double click the home button and clear all running apps, if this continues… Your best bet would be to search forums online! If all else fails run it by the Geek Squad at BestBuy. Those guys are actually pretty knowledgable. If you're worried about going over your limit, temporarily keep it on Airplane mode (top of the settings page).

Go into your iPhone settings-->general-->Background app refresh and then turn it off. That could be the reason. I'm not positive but its highly probable. I only have 1 app that I let refresh in the background and thats google maps for when I drive long distances.
Also when you say no apps are open… Do you mean you have force closed all apps by double clicking the home button and sliding all app up and off of the screen?
