Well that would depend on what cost the repair place in question calls to do that work vs the cost of a new iPhone.
Depends on what Apple charges for a refurbished iPhone, or what it would cost to buy a used iPhone of the same one you are replacing.
Also Apple may go the repair for a flat rate that is the same or better than a local repair shop. You will need to contact several shops and Apple to decide which is most cost effective for you where YOU live. Here in Seattle, if you don't mind having third party parts used on your phone repair, it will most often be cheaper at a repair shop, for the older iPhones, and cost more for the newer ones.

- Water damage and opening iPhone 5c both puts it out of warranty, so do both? If having water damage in your iPhone 5c means you aren't covered by warranty, is it acceptable to open it and try to fix it as opening it also means it isn't covered by warranty. Therefore if you can't fix it yourself, apple can still take it out of warranty?
