Is it safe to give out my DNS?

So I was told about how to improve my internet speed, but the guys wants my DNS from my iPhone or something. Is it safe to give it out?

Yeah, that's fine. The DNS you use can in no way be used to identify you.

Based on your mention of the iPhone, if you use Wi-Fi, you will normally use a different DNS server from when you are using cellular (mobile) Internet.

If you use the automatic set up of your IP, gateway and DNS addresses, then the DNS server for Wi-Fi, will probably just be the internal address of your router, and be something like 192.168.1.1. This is meaningless to others apart from telling them you are using a home router. For you are using a cellular connection, it may identify which cellular network you are using.

Apart from the cases above, there's no information that the DNS address will reveal.

Its fine. Your dns doesn't point back to you. In fact i use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but that doesn't tell you anything

  • Why isn't my internet on my laptop working? DNS server? My internet on the home computer is working and my iPhone is working as well. On my laptop it says that I'm connected to my network. However, when I try to open up Chrome or Firefox, it won't connect to any pages. Chrome keeps saying that DNS server isn't available. Does anyone know hwo to help?
  • Why doesn't my DNS server work? My computer and iphone can't load anything ONLY in my room. If i go downstairs my Wi-Fi works perfectly. I troubleshooted on my computer and it said my DNS server is not responding. What could be the reason for this? And why does it only not work in a certain area?
  • When you give APPLE a defective IPHON do they give you a reconditioned one back? My IPHONE had a defect, still under warranty, so I took it to an Apple MAC store and after a few days they gave it back, supposedly repaired. Now the replaced IPHONE has a problem, different than the previous problem I'm now having a problem with the taking a photo. Do they just replace your phone with a reconditioned one they say no but?
  • What is the fastest DNS server? I have an iPhone 4 that buffers YouTube videos constantly and I heard that if you change the DNS on the phone the buffering will speed up. What's the fastest open DNS out there?
