Is there a local radio iPhone app that doesn't require Wi-Fi or data?

So I can listen to the radio while outside, I remember having an iPod woth abuilt in radio that I could listen to just about anywhere.

No. The iPhone does NOT have, and never has had an FM Tuner circuit, which would be required in order to receive FM Radio broadcasts. Most iPods, and all iPads do not have an FM Tuner built-in.

There are add-on modules, that are FM tuners that can connect via Bluetooth, but since you can only have one bluetooth connection, that would mean carrying two devices and headset or earbuds. The cost of the device is generally more than a small portable transistor radio, and you would have two devices to keep charged.

If you have T-Mobile service, you could user their MusicFreedom program, which connects you to iHeartRadio, Pandora and quite a few others (but not TuneIn, yet).

The Cellular service providers in the US have forced device makers to disable FM circuits on devices that can use their services. There was some traction on a Communications bill a few years ago that would have forced makers to add the circuit, but was successfully blocked by the Cellular service companies by wining and dining the Democrats in the House and Senate.

  • What's a good radio app where you can change music and it doesn't stream on IPhone? I like the Pandora one but it streams so all of space it taken up and makes the phone bill higher so i need something similar to that especially that you can change your music and select your own radio stations but make sure it DOES NOT stream. Please and Thank you! Oh and it doesn't matter if you have to use internet or not but please tell if it does or not.

  • Is there an alarm clock app for iPhone that launches a radio app? I like to listen to a morning radio station on the Radiopup app and need an alarm clock that can launch that app. I have Radiopup set up to automatically launch to the station but need an alarm clock to launch Radiopup. There may be times where I want to wake up to Pandora, iHeart radio, or TuneIn. Does anyone know an app that will launch another app?
