Recording through 3.5mm Headphone jack iPhone: What Am I doing wrong?

So I'm sure the source will make no difference but if you must know, I have programmed a drum loop and chord progression in my DAW and I want to record myself playing the melody over this (video/audio). So basically the output of my computer!

Similar (Or pretty much like):

I know, I know. 4 pole TRRS.

After research I found out, "Oh I have the wrong cable."
See, EVERY single 3.5mm cable I pulled up had only 2 or 3 poles or whatever it is. So I spent the money,
waited the week. Here's what I got:

In my mind: One out to My headphones so I can hear what I'm doing, and one to the iphone to record

the latter from splitter to phone.

Well I've tried directly from computer through red wire, and various other configurations, My iphone just doesn't seem to be picking it up from the Computer. It is not my Physical hardware on the iphone, my headphones' voice control, calling and the recording through that cable mic works. (THIS WAS THE FIRST CABLE i TRIED BEFORE THE RESEARCH / PURCHASE, but they're head phones not 3.5mm to 3.5mm and the mic on that thing: subpar)

This dude did it with more cables:

What am I missing?

Added (1). also tried cables separate for audio. All good.

Added (2). iPhone 4s / iOS 7.1 > I don't wanna update lol for speed issues >.<

My guess is a software issue on your phone. On Android we have an app called SoundAbout allowing swithing around audio input and outputs. Maybe you can find something similar for iOS

That cable you seem to be using seems to basically just be a splitter. You can't record that way, since you'll basically just be wiring your computer's audio output to your phone's headphone output and your computer's mic input to your phone's mic input. I think you will essentially need something similar to the setup that you linked, except that you'll be hooking up your computer's audio output instead of a guitar. Also, since the mic input is mono, you'll need a Y adapter to connect your computer's audio output (which I assume is stereo) to it.

  • Somehow, a huge piece of the headphone jack got stuck in the headphone port, and I can't find any I think the headphone type is just a normal iPhone headphone. So ground, audio, mic and some of the plastic, or whatever it is, around it, got stuck in there, and it's not super deep, probably because it's almost the whole headphone jack, but it's still in there. Someone please help! I can't find anything! It's just the headphone jack tip that got stuck for everyone else! It's a laptop.
  • My Iphone 4s Headphone Jack has light leaking through the hole? I recently got my Iphone 4s. I'm not up to date. LOL. Anyway, I have an issue with my new Iphone 4s. I don't know why, but for some reason there's light that emits/leak through my Iphone 4s headphone jack. It only happens when I turn my iphone 4s screen on. Is this normal? Anyone enc ountering the same issue? I'm a bit paranoid since this is a new phone that I'm getting from an Apple Store.
  • Loud speakers that connect through headphone jack for iPhone 4s? Phone got wet, works perfectly except for sounds, which only work when headphones are on. Are there any loud speakers that can connect to the headphone jack of a 4s? Would a normal loud speaker that connects through the dock connector work, like the iHorns?
  • Is my iPhone the cause of my headphone jack breaking? So I have an iPhone 4S and I was using these headphones for about a year and all the sudden the jack you plug in to the phone, bent. It wouldn't work anymore. I don't know how this happened, it may not have been my iPhone. However, now I have a new pair of headphones and I just want to make sure it isn't my phone doing this, could it be my phone or is that very unlikely?
