I would say go for the Samsung. Android phones have much much more customisability (that is, if you know how to root. Which isn't too hard) I recently changed from an iphone to an Android phone. Best decision I have made in a while. If you're reluctant because of the look of the S4 (it's plastic) I recommend the HTC One M7, which is the one I've got. Brilliant phone, which doesn't sacrifice looks. It's pretty much a mash up between the functionality of Android and the aesthetics of an iphone.
However, saying that, If you're a bit of a technophobe/not great with technology, go with the iphone, it's much more basic in features and interface, which is one of the reasons it's so popular.
Both have its own advantage and disadvantages.go for what you like.
