They say locked & unlocked iphone, who locks iphone, what's need of locking it?
Why factory don't make only unlocked iPhone's?
It can't because then other people will access it and do whatever they want on your phone. Do you want that?
Unlocked -
Unlocked is the term used to describe mobile phones that are not tied to a particular service provider in order to be used. Many cell phones are tied to a single cellular provider at their introduction, but are later unlocked for use on many networks.
Unlocked phones can be used on the network of any compatible provider with the insertion of a compatible SIM card.
Some phones that are locked can be unlocked using computers or special phone codes, though this can invalidate warranties.
In iPhone -
The iPhone is SIM locked, meaning that it can only be used on AT&T and Verizon's networks in the US, a move that has caused substantial criticism from some users.
However, a number of third-party programmers have found ways to unlock the iPhone through both hardware and software. Few of these techniques have been widely released and the iPhone seems only to work on T-Mobile and AT&T for now.
Jailbreaking -
While jailbreaking and unlocking are not the same, they're similar. Jailbreaking allows users to install whatever software they'd like on their iOS device, while unlocking allows them to choose their phone service provider. The two things are often done at the same time, but they're not the same thing.
Its not unlocking its Jailbreak, jailbreak is illegal. It makes paid apps for free. Its a loss for company.

- My iPhone is locked and I can't remember the password it only lets me try one password before locking down now it says connect to iTunes? What am I supposed to do? I have connected to iTunes but it says it needs me to answer on my phone and I can't do that
- My iphone always locks itself? So its like the lock button always gets presses down or it got pressed down and won't go back up. I woke up this morning and my phone was on the ground and my cup of water spilled all over the floor and some water got on my phone if that helps anything. And i just got ios7 last night if that says anything either.
- My iphone 4s has been stolen what does locking it do? My iphone 4s was stolen and i'm planning on locking it. Does this mean the sim card will be locked or the whole phone? Reply as soon as possible would be appreciated.
- My aunt and uncle have the same Apple ID. I think they need separate ones, do they? I've told them to get separate ones in the event that they need to back up their phones or get new ones. Don't they need separate ones? They hardly back up their phones or hook up their iPhones to the computer.
