Turning off all cellular usage on iPhone 5?

I live in Canada. Tomorrow, I'm going over across to the USA. I wanna bring my phone with me but I'm on a contract with Virgin Mobile and I absolutely do not want additional international fees for anything. Is there a way to turn off everything, including texting/calling?
I know about the "cellular data off" setting but that seems to only disable internet access and everything that requires it, not texting/calling.
I'd basically want my phone to become like an iPod?

Your iPhone 5 should have an option called "Airplane Mode'

This will shut off:
Wi-Fi
GPS
Bluetooth
Cellular Data
Calling/Texting

Just enable that, and you'll be fine.
