Videos Taken on iPhone 4S Not Playing On Computer?

I went to a gig last night and took a couple of videos on my 4S. I connected it to the computer this morning and copied the photos/videos onto my computer but when I tried to play the videos (.MOV) it loaded Windows Media Player but didn't load the video, came up WMP has stopped working etc. I've done this before with other videos and it's worked fine, I went to play one of the older videos on my computer and it worked fine, so it's just these ones from last night. I usually put the videos into a photo folder and play them through the Photo app on windows 8 but doesn't work either. Tried watching them through other software but it's jumpy.

Any suggestions?

Maybe you need Apple Quicktime. Although, even though that is supposed to support MP4 I think it could not play videos from my Android phone. So you may want to try VLC which is an open source video player for multiple operating systems (worked for those Android MP4 videos that would not play in Windows Media Player or Quicktime).

The file type might be supported though unlikely. Instead of opening the video file directly, open Windows Media Player first, then open the file. This is just to make sure Windows Media Player recognises the file. If listed, select file to see if it plays. If it doesn't play, you may need a specific codec to play it.

  • Why can't I watch videos taken with my iPhone on my computer? I took some videos today with my iPhone 4s and I tried to watch them on my computer but it doesn't work. When I click on it, it just shows a black screen but I can still hear the sound. I tried to delete my quicktime and download the new version but nothing changed.
