What all do I need to do to upgrade from my iPhone 4 to a GSM unlocked iPhone 5S?
Is it simply as easy as removing the sim card from the old phone and putting it in the unlocked 5S? Do I need to contact AT&T and let them know I've done anything? Just ordered the unlocked upgraded phone, and am worried IIm going to have to go through a whole ordeal.
You can switch the Sim card and nothing more.
The later iPhones come with a micro SIM card. Not sure any iphone 4. If iphone 4 comes with a bigger SIM then you can buy a SIM cutter and cut it down to micro level and it'll work. I did this with my iphone. You can also call Customer service and ask for a micro SIM with the same number for your new phone. I didn't do this because they would have required that I get an expensive monthly plan for my unlocked iphone that I didn't buy from them, so I used a SIM cutter and switched the Sim card into my new phone. No problems.
Edit: I said micro SIM but meant nano SIM.
Swapping the SIM is just to get your number across. You'd also have to transfer your details as well.

- Unlocked IPhone 5. Can be ported to one GSM provider but not another. Why? My friend in South Africa got an AT&T model of Iphone5. It is now unlocked and has been ported to one of his providers. He doesn't like the data rates and wanted it on either "Cell C" or "8TA" (which is Telecom Mobile) Both are GSM providers I believe. So why can the phone be ported to one GSM provider, but not the other? Should the Iphone 5 be possible unlocked in a different fashion? he assures me, it should work on the other networks in SA.
