What am I supposed to do in this situation? - 1
I'm 15 years old and in the 10th grade. I don't have many friends, and I usually talk to my art teacher a lot in between classes. I like to talk about psychology and stuff, and so does she. So anyways, almost EVERY day the chemistry teacher comes into the room and talks to the art teacher. They are apparently best friends or some jazz.
So anyways, the chemistry teacher came into the room one day SUPER stressed out. She sat down on the art teachers desk and asked her for help with this paper she was holding. So the art teacher began to help her. I had no idea what was going on, and I really had no intention of figuring out. I just happened to be standing by the desk. Now, my art teacher just got a new iPhone, and on the desk was sitting an iPhone in a polka-dot case. I thought this was my art teachers, so I picked it up and said "Wow, I really like your case!"
Right as I started to pick it up, the chemistry teacher slapped my hand and screamed at me. And I mean SCREAMED at me. "Stop it! I have to get this finished! And I have to get to class!"
Everyone was staring at me, and I didn't know what to do, so I just went to the back of the room and sat in a desk. I might be making such a big deal out of something that really isn't, but I'm shaken up by the situation and I don't know how to handle going to school today. Please help in any way you can. What am I supposed to do?
The teacher was most likely stressed out cause of what they had to get done. So don't make a big deal out of it.
On the side note don't spend so much time talking only to the teacher. You need to make some more friends.
The teacher probably will apologize to you. If not, just tell the one that screamed at you that she/he embarrassed you and you were just looking at the case and you didn't think you did anything wrong and if so, your sorry. Another words. Get tough and clear it up and you'll feel better because you are being assertive in a polite way.
Clearly something that had nothing to do with you was bothering your chemistry teacher.
When people are stressed out they snap very easily… Its just a human thing.
So your simple action was seen by her as a BIG issue.
Please DO NOT let the situation bother you… It will all be cleared up with a little time.
Why not share how you felt with your Art teacher.
Ouch, poor boy. Don't let this unfortunate event lose your faith in humanity. The adults often do things like this and we all have the tendency of dramatising this and thinking that we're the reason for their anger and such.
But the fact is, Sean, that you are just a job for the teacher. I had to learn this the hard way myself, when I noticed that a teacher whom I absolutely idolised and to a degree befriended in a similar way as you did no longer remember my name when I met her again five years after graduation. They do not really care about us (ex)students. We're their job and that's it.
And many of them do not notice that many of the things they say and do have detrimental effects on us school kids, things that traumatise or haunt us for the rest of our lives. They just slap your hand because they want to swiftly react and avert some catastrophe (perhaps an important app was open) and do not think at all about what they do to us.
But then we students also have to get a "thicker skin" and understand that most of those teacher people love their subject, but understand pretty little about how to deal with kids, especially the more sensitive ones. Relax: Nobody is targeting you in particular. You just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Forgive them and go on.
