What can cause hearing ability to go out in an iPhone 3?

I would presume it's a malfunctioning speaker, which could be caused by water damage or otherwise, or it could be from age since the iPhone 3G is from about 2008, and 7 years is a very long time for a cell phone to be used.
- My hearing got much better. I thought hearing never healed I used to listen to a lot of music and, on my iphone, i'd listen comfortably with all but two bars. Now half the vomume is loud enough for me, with same phone and earbuds
- I have the Sprint IPhone 4- will this phone have ability to jailbreak? If I'm under contract, would this phone be able to have the jailbreak installed? Also, an android Samsung 1500 w/out service- could this device be jailbreak-d and how do I get service after its done? Really new to this technology but wanting to learn.
- I'm sick, but I have trouble hearing out of one ear? Well, I'm kinda scared because right now because I can barely hear from it, and it feels like it's clogged. I also listen to A LOT of loud music on my iphones, almost always above 35% max volume. But, I'm also sick today.Am I losing hearing in one ear, or is it just clogged due to the sickness. I have a runny nose, nasty head ache, sore throat, and a fever.
- How to turn off the ability to reply on lock screen iPhone? It's frustrating how the passcode is not needed to reply if is on the lock screen. I saw the option to turn it off earlier but I can't find it now.
