What happens if I put my sim card in an old iphone?

My iphone 3gs broke due to water damage, I was wondering if I put my sim card in his old iphone 3gs will his files be deleted? Or maybe replaced with mine? Because he might have important files in ther or notes and I don't want them to get deleted.

If your iPhone has water damage then your SIM card probably does too. :-/

Take the SIM card out first and leave it near a window for 24 hours. If the SIM card carrier matches the one the iPhone was designed for, it'll be fine. If they don't match, you must jailbreak it first. And no, his files will not be deleted. SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module. Let's just say the in the eyes of ABC cellphone service, you were customer #487. When you use minutes, messages, and data on your phone, the SIM card adds your number to the data so when it goes to ABC cellphone service, the servers know to bill customer #487 and not some other customer. The SIM card also knows your cellphone number so if the server receives a call that is going to 123-456-7890, the server can look it up and finds that that number belongs to customer #487 so it forwards the data to your phone because the customer number matches the one on your SIM card. From what you were talking about, you were mixing up SD cards with SIM cards. Just remember that SD is for data (not usable on the iPhone) and SIM is for your carrier so they know who to bill and where to send calls.

  • What happens if i take the sim card out my iphone 5c and put it back in? I just got an iPhone 5s from a friend but it didn't have a sim card, when I reset it i couldn't set it up without a sim card so i want to use my cousin's. I think that if i take it out then some of her memory might be deleted but i'm not sure.
  • What happens if I put the SIM card of a non smartphone into and iPhone? I use AT&T and I have an HTC but it isn't a smart phone. So if I cut the SIM card into a nano SIM card, which is used for iPhones, and put it in an iPhone 4S, will the phone work? Also I do not use data on my phone, only texting and calling and I'm not telling the AT&T people because they would make me get an iPhone which I can't do until my contract ends next year or ill have to pay 300 dollars.
  • What happens if I put a regular AT&T SIM card in a iPhone 3GS? Will they start charging me? Or can I just use the iPhone as a phone on the go and just use Wi-Fi? I already keep it in for 10min and called someone but I don't want them to charge me. Any ideas?
  • Old iPhone with old sim card? Mum just got a new iPhone, so gave her old one to my sister. My sister did not have an appropriate sized sim card, so they guy at the store cut it down. Mum's new sim card is working, but when we put my sisters in the old phone, it just keeps saying no service. What do we do? Can we use it or not?
