"i" is something that apple has been using for quite awhile. It just means "mine". Like, my personal phone.
When they originally named the first iMac they said it stood for "internet, indivduality, i as in me, imagination."

Nothing. When Apple 1st used i in their product names it was on the 1998 iMac. The i stood for internet, which was a big deal at the time the way that computer was configured for it.
By 2001 when the iPod debuted, Apple already had the iBook, which like the iPod simply used the iName for recognition since by that time Apple had become known for products with the iName in it.
So by 2007 when the iPhone debuted it was the same thing.iPhone. No meaning to the i, just their for naming purposes.
