An iPhone is a type of smartphone. Androids, Blackberries, Google Phones, etc. And any phone that is more than a phone (email, texting, surfing, maps, etc.) is a smartphone.
A smart phone is smart. It can pick up emails, browse the internet, has an app store and picks up 3G. The IPhone has all these function but has a few more goodies. The Samsung S4 is the same, it has the capabilities of a smartphone with extras.
