They look pretty much the same but 4S has a faster processor, improved antenna design, better camera, different battery life (slightly improved for some functions, slightly worse for others).It also has Siri voice assistant.
There's not really any difference. The iphone 4s just has a smoother interface. It is like the finishing product was the iphone is like a prototype. It has a better battery life, a slightly better camera. Sharper display pixel wise.
Improved camera, battery life, graphics, processor, Siri & in the long term will continue to get updates where the 4 will stop.
Later versions always have better hardware. Always.
