What's a good camera that records high quality video and takes awesome pictures?

I'm going on a trip to the Niagara Falls and my dad asked me to look for a good camera since the one we have is 5 years old and takes very bad pictures. My iPhone takes better pictures than that camera. What's a good camera that both records high quality videos and takes awesome pictures. I don't want a big DSLR camera though, just a small compact camera that I can put in my pocket.

You want to get a Nikon 1JR

I wouldn't really go for one that you can put in your pocket. Just get one with a strap. Personally, I have the FujiFilm FinePix S2980. It's a bridge camera; in between a digital and DSLR. It's amazing quality and the zoom is great.
